Around the Great Lakes

Maps, Charts, Topos for the Great Lakes

I’ve been getting some questions about the maps I’ll be using on the Around the Great Lakes Expedition. For several reasons, including unwieldy chart books, a desire for more detailed shoreline maps, and the cost of government printed topos, I’ve decided to make my own.

The maps I’ll be producing for this trip will be similar to those the Minnesota DNR produces for the Lake Superior Water Trail. They’ll just cover the shoreline and be printed 11×17″ on waterproof paper. Several strips of land will appear on each side.

In some places, where I’m expecting to do major crossings, I’ll print or buy maps that provide greater detail.

Using maps produced like this lets me carry less paper and allows me to avoid the maps where very limited shoreline is shown, but lots of water is shown.

All these maps, subject to government copyright, will be available to download from this website as I complete them.
