Around the Great Lakes

Rough Route Map via Google Maps

Over at the Great Lakes Canoe Expedition 2007-2009, Stephanie and Jonathan have plotted their route using the online Google Maps application. You can now view my Google Maps for the Around the Great Lake Expedition. I’ll be updating the online version with research, resupply locations, etc… as I continue planning. Right now, you can find a few planned campsites for the first and last days of the trip. :)

WOW! Will you be offering a tracking link to Google Earth via SPOT or some satellite tracking device? Periodic video or photo updates as the expedition progresses? Maybe to all or just subscribers? Great adventure! I’ll be monitoring this site to check for updates. Good Luck.

    Hey Jim,

Thanks for the support. I don’t have a SPOT or other satellite tracking device, but I will be carrying a GPS. Some friends of mine at http://www.wildernessclassroom.com/ use a GPS device to track their progress and upload it to Trip Tracker. I may do something like that.

I will be updating the blog as the trip moves forward and during the trip, I’ll provide daily Twitter Tweets, which you can subscribe to via Twiter, and which will also appear here. I’ll be updating the blog with pictures and deeper journal entries as I secure Wi-Fi, or as the memory cards make it home for my support person to upload.

I’m happy to have you follow along!

Three camping options on Lake Huron between Cheboygan and Oscodo: Hoeft State Park north of Rogers City, on the water, Ossineke state forest campground south of Alpena in Ossineke, campsites on the water, and Harrisville State park just south of Harrisville, directly on the water, although that will be a very busy time at that park if it’s indeed the first week of July.
It sounds like you’ll be in the area around the beginning of July. I’m happy to offer any support you need and would make an effort to join you for a bit of paddling.
Good luck! Drop me a line if you want phone contact info.

This is quite a journey and God speed. I am planning to take a trip myself across Lake Michigan but compared to you it looks like a afternoon paddle. Once again God speed and I will definetly be following your trip.
